Blue Jays’ Guerrero Jr. Sidelined with Concussion

Date:

The Toronto Blue Jays placed Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a six-time All-Star, on the seven-day injured list (IL) on Saturday due to concussion symptoms. In his absence, outfielder Daz Cameron was called up from Triple-A Buffalo, while Lazaro Estrada, a right-hander, was designated for assignment to free up space on the 40-man roster.

Additionally, left-hander Ricky Tiedemann was recalled from Buffalo on Saturday, and right-hander Chase Lee was sent down to Triple-A to make room on the roster.

Guerrero exited Friday’s game against the Yankees after a collision with New York’s rookie shortstop, George Lombard Jr., during a play at third base in the sixth inning. Lombard attempted to jump over a sliding Guerrero but inadvertently struck Guerrero’s head with his knee and thigh, causing Guerrero’s helmet to come off. Despite the impact, Guerrero managed to score a run but appeared disoriented after crossing the plate, leading to his substitution by Charles McAdoo.

Following the game, manager John Schneider mentioned that Guerrero had a headache, a condition that persisted into Saturday. Guerrero, who boasts a .263 batting average with seven home runs and 46 RBIs, will be closely monitored as he recovers.

Meanwhile, Tiedemann, who posted a record of 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA across seven games and two starts in various minor league levels this season, has been called up to provide pitching depth for the Blue Jays.
