“BC RCMP Deputy Commissioner Removed Amid Allegations”

Date:

The British Columbia RCMP’s top official, Dwayne McDonald, has been removed from his position due to unspecified allegations spanning from 2016 to 2018. John Brewer, who previously led B.C.’s extortion task force, has taken over as the new deputy commissioner and commanding officer for the province. The RCMP Commissioner, Mike Duheme, confirmed in a statement that further details about the allegations will not be disclosed at this time but assured that there would be no disruption to RCMP operations in the province.

The statement indicated that the allegations are currently under investigation and were recently brought to the attention of the RCMP. McDonald, who previously served as the chief of the Surrey RCMP and held roles in federal and organized crime investigations for B.C., had his bio removed from the RCMP’s senior executive committee page. With nearly thirty years of law enforcement experience and past roles in various specialized units, McDonald was a prominent figure in the RCMP, receiving the Order of Merit of the Police Forces in 2015.

On the other hand, John Brewer, now serving as the interim commanding officer for B.C. RCMP, was praised by Duheme for having the full confidence of the RCMP’s senior leadership team. Brewer, previously an assistant commissioner with the RCMP, has taken on the responsibility of leading the largest division within the RCMP, E Division.
