“International Corgi Race Vilnius Draws 150 Dogs Worldwide”

Date:

Around 150 corgis from various countries came together for a lively international race celebrating these small herding dogs that have their roots in Wales. The event, known as the fifth Corgi Race Vilnius, took place at Vingis Park in the Lithuanian capital and featured not only a thrilling race but also a costume parade, a contest for the “smartest nose,” and a competition for the loudest bark.

Participants from nine different countries, including Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Estonia, Germany, Ukraine, Czech Republic, the United States, and Britain, where the breed is famously loved by Queen Elizabeth II, joined in the festivities. The event’s organizer, Edvinas Miskas, highlighted the significant growth of the race, from 40 corgis in its inaugural year to 150 corgis from around the world in the latest edition.

The main running event saw 94 dogs competing in qualifiers, semifinals, and the final showdown over a 25-meter track. The American corgi GG emerged victorious in the final race, with Mr. Corgington from the U.S. finishing a close second and Lithuania’s Moka, a former champion, taking third place.

The event wasn’t all about speed, as it also showcased the talents of the corgis and their owners through various activities. A costume parade featured corgis in creative outfits, while the “smartest nose” challenge tested the dogs’ ability to find hidden treats. In the loudest bark competition, Mr. Corgington claimed the top spot, impressing the audience with his vocal prowess.

The event attracted both newcomers and seasoned participants, with half of the corgis competing for the first time. Costume winner Amigo and five other veteran corgis have been a part of every edition of the race, adding to the event’s charm and tradition.
