Calgary Wild Upsets Ottawa Rapid 4-3 in Northern Super League

Serita Thurton netted two goals in the opening half as the underdog Calgary Wild stunned the top-ranked Ottawa Rapid 4-3 in Northern Super League action at McMahon Stadium. Kahli Johnson struck first for the home team in the 15th minute to take a 1-0 lead, with Thurton doubling the advantage about 13 minutes later.

Ottawa’s Jung Min-Young narrowed the deficit with a goal in the 38th minute, and Melanie Forbes equalized at 2-2 just before halftime. Thurton then sealed her brace just before the break, propelling the Wild to a lead they maintained. Jorian Baucom also found the net for the Wild, who now hold a record of two wins, 12 losses, and two draws.

Jyllissa Harris converted a penalty in the 86th minute for the Rapid, who fell to 10 wins, three losses, and three draws, ending their 10-game undefeated streak. Despite holding 54% possession, the Rapid were outshot 16-13 (9-6 on target). The Wild secured six of the 11 corners, while Ottawa received one yellow card and one red card.

In another match, Jessica De Filippo scored in the 57th minute to level the game before adding a late second goal in stoppage time, guiding the Vancouver Rise to a 2-1 victory over the Halifax Tides at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, B.C. Jordyn Rhodes had initially put the fourth-ranked Tides ahead in the 19th minute.

The Rise, placed fifth, controlled 56% of possession and outshot the Tides 18-13, including a 6-4 advantage on target. Halifax took four of the six corners, while Vancouver received two of the three yellow cards issued.
