“Promise David Joins Brighton on Record-Breaking Deal”

Date:

Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the services of Canadian striker Promise David for the upcoming Premier League season. The player, previously with Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, will join Brighton on a season-long loan deal with an option to purchase him for a reported fee of $29.7 million US, subject to certain conditions.

Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be moving to the Premier League starting from the following season, setting a new transfer record for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old striker had an impressive stint at Union, contributing 41 goals in 82 matches and aiding the club in clinching its first league title in 90 years in 2025. David, who extended his contract with Union until June 2029 last year, also showcased his talent at the recent World Cup, scoring a goal for Canada despite limited playing time due to a hip injury.

Born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David initially represented Nigeria at the under-23 level before switching his allegiance to Canada in early 2025 following approval from FIFA. His journey to Brighton marks another chapter in his diverse career, having previously played in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before moving to Belgium in July 2024.

Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed excitement over David’s arrival, highlighting the striker’s goal-scoring prowess, physical attributes, and international experience. With Brighton aiming to build on their eighth-place finish in the previous Premier League season, the addition of David, entering his prime at 25 years old, is seen as a valuable asset to the team’s ambitions.
