Alanis Morissette has taken legal action against her former tour manager, accusing them of engaging in a calculated blackmail scheme to implicate her in drug trafficking unless she agreed to hire them for an extended period. The Canadian singer-songwriter filed a lawsuit in California, claiming that Keren Urinov is threatening to report her to British authorities for drug-related offenses unless Morissette contracted her as a tour director for 15 years and provided substantial compensation.
In the lawsuit, Morissette alleges civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation by Urinov, stating that she refuses to be coerced into giving her blackmailer a significant payout and is seeking to expose and hold Urinov accountable for her actions.
The incident unfolded in 2025 when Urinov, who previously worked for Live Nation in Israel, was hired as a temporary tour manager for Morissette’s global tour. During a trip from the U.K. to Spain for a concert, Urinov was reportedly arrested at the airport after a bag she claimed ownership of was flagged by British authorities for containing marijuana and xylazine, an animal tranquilizer. Although Urinov presented her Israeli medical marijuana license and was released, she faced further questioning the following day regarding the same bag.
Subsequently, Urinov allegedly admitted to Morissette that the bag and its contents were hers. After the tour, Urinov and her legal team sent a series of demanding letters to Morissette, threatening legal action in the U.K. if she did not acquiesce to their demands for a long-term contract with substantial financial benefits.
The lawsuit also sheds light on alleged mismanagement by Urinov during the 2025 tour, including costly errors and misleading information provided during the hiring process. Morissette expressed reluctance in taking legal action but felt compelled to do so to prevent further coercion and manipulation.
Morissette is adamant about not succumbing to the pressure imposed by Urinov and is seeking a trial by jury to address the situation. Efforts to reach Urinov and Morissette’s representatives for comments have been unsuccessful.
