Canada’s Marco Arop secured the fourth position during the recent Diamond League track and field competition held in Lausanne, Switzerland, at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise. Arop started strong and led the pack into the final lap but couldn’t maintain the pace, finishing just outside the top three with a time of 1:43.18.
The victory in the men’s 800m race went to Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi, clocking in at 1:42.19, followed by Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati with a season-best time of 1:42.31. American Brandon Miller claimed the third spot with a time of 1:42.55.
Last year, Arop and women’s shot putter Sarah Mitton were the sole Canadians to qualify for the Diamond League Final in Zurich, where they both secured third place finishes. Arop entered the recent race ranked second in the men’s 800m Diamond League standings, trailing behind Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi, positioning him well for potential qualification.
The 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final is scheduled to be held on September 4–5 in Brussels, Belgium. On the women’s side, American Kayla White emerged victorious in the 200m event with a time of 22.18 seconds. In a closely contested battle for second and third place, Great Britain’s Amy Hunt narrowly beat Nigeria’s Favour Ofili, both clocking in at 22.32 seconds. Unfortunately, Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, a two-time women’s world champion, had to withdraw due to an injury.
Upcoming in the event is the men’s 200m race, where reigning Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo of Botswana is set to compete.
