Anthony Joshua narrowly escaped tragedy by changing seats just before a car accident that took the lives of two of his friends. The crash occurred on Monday, resulting in the fatalities of Joshua’s companions while he sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized. The driver of the vehicle has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, claiming that the brakes failed.
According to Joshua’s lawyer, the boxer initially sat in the front seat but was asked by the driver to switch due to visibility issues. The driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with several offenses, including reckless driving and driving without a valid license, with the case adjourned to January 20.
Joshua, who was vacationing in Nigeria following a recent victory, lost close friends who were integral to his training team. Various figures from the boxing world, including promoter Eddie Hearn and champions like Tony Bellew and Tyson Fury, have expressed their condolences.
After being released from the hospital, Joshua has yet to make a public statement about the incident. He and his mother paid their respects at the funeral home in Lagos, where preparations were being made for the repatriation of the deceased friends.
