Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps has released new photographs depicting the aftermath of a tragic accident involving renowned British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua. The incident, which claimed the lives of two individuals, occurred on Monday morning along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, where Joshua was traveling in an SUV that veered off the road due to a burst tire, colliding with a stationary lorry.
Anthony Joshua was hospitalized after being extricated from the wreckage, along with other occupants of the vehicle. The Ogun State police and the FRSC have initiated investigations into the crash to determine the circumstances leading to the tragic event.
In a recent statement posted on their official platform at 2:10 pm GMT on Monday, December 29, the FRSC shared four new images showing the damaged SUV and the truck it collided with. The images captured officials on the scene alongside witnesses, with the back of the truck visibly secured.
According to the FRSC, the fatal crash involved a Lexus Jeep carrying Anthony Joshua and a stationary commercial Sinotruck, resulting in the loss of two lives, injuries to one person, and two individuals escaping unharmed. Joshua, who sustained minor injuries, was promptly rescued and taken for medical attention, while the deceased were transported to a local morgue for further procedures.
Reports suggest that the vehicle Joshua was in was speeding beyond the legal limit, leading to the loss of control and subsequent collision with the stationary truck. The FRSC emphasized the dangers of excessive speed and reckless overtaking on Nigerian highways, urging motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and prioritize safety.
While Joshua has not made any public statements following the accident, the authorities have not disclosed the specific hospital where he is receiving treatment. The Ogun State government has confirmed that the two individuals who lost their lives in the crash were foreign nationals, as per initial assessments.
