The Canadian beach volleyball pair, Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson, experienced a defeat in the semifinals of the Montreal Elite16 tournament, losing 21-19, 20-22, 15-7 against Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta on Sunday. Wilkerson contributed 29 points for Canada, showcasing 20 kills, eight blocks, and a serve point, while Humana-Paredes added 13 points with 12 kills and a serve point.
Despite falling short of securing a third consecutive victory, the Canadians will compete for the bronze medal against Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann. The duo had previously clinched the Montreal titles in 2023 and 2025, with an Olympic silver medal in between.
In a surprising turn of events, Canada’s Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett upset the world No. 1s, Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson, to advance to the men’s semifinals at the FIVB Beach Pro Tour event on Saturday. The 39th-ranked Canadian pair faced a setback in the semifinals on Sunday morning, suffering a 2-1 defeat (21-12, 16-21, 16-14) against Brazil’s Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and André Loyola Stein.
Schachter and Pickett will now vie for the third-place position against Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen. Fans can catch the action live on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem.
