The individual believed to have carried out a “mass shooting” in Fort Smith, N.W.T., has been apprehended by authorities. The arrest took place around 4:30 a.m. MT on Sunday, as confirmed by the RCMP. Pending further investigation, charges are expected to be filed, according to law enforcement.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday during the conclusion of the local Fireweed Festival’s opening event. A confrontation at the parking lot of Dirty O’Fergies, a nearby bar, led to gunfire that left three individuals wounded. Following the altercation, the community was placed under lockdown, enduring a shelter-in-place directive that spanned more than 13 hours.
