Conor Benn has accused his rival Chris Eubank Jr of displaying a ‘victim mentality’ following the release of a concerning video showing Eubank Jr receiving medical treatment in a hospital setting. The footage depicted Eubank Jr, aged 36, lying still on a bed with medical equipment around him and medical personnel in attendance.
The video prompted an outpouring of sympathy from fans, with some suggesting that Eubank Jr should consider retiring, especially after his defeat to Benn by unanimous decision in their recent rematch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Benn, however, questioned Eubank Jr’s motives for sharing the video, implying that it may have been a ploy to garner sympathy.
Addressing the situation, the 29-year-old Benn mentioned hearing about Eubank Jr’s health issues during his training camp and post-fight, indicating that while he acknowledges the challenges, he believes they are not severe health conditions. Benn urged people to look beyond the surface and recognize a potential pattern of seeking sympathy and adopting a victim mentality.
In an interview with the Mail, Benn highlighted his own undisclosed struggles, emphasizing the demanding nature of their sport. He shared a personal anecdote about enduring physical challenges, such as tearing a tendon before a fight, without seeking public sympathy, portraying a stoic attitude towards the adversities faced in boxing.
Despite the health issues faced, Eubank Jr affirmed his determination not to retire, stating on social media that he would return to boxing only when fully recovered. He expressed gratitude to his supporters and pledged to stage a comeback when he regains peak condition.
