“Darts Drama: Joe Cullen Calls Out Suljovic for ‘Dishonesty'”

Date:

Joe Cullen has taken to social media to strongly criticize Mensur Suljovic, accusing the experienced darts player of dishonesty. The player from Bradford faced a tough loss against the Austrian during a closely contested second-round match at the World Darts Championship.

Suljovic mounted an impressive comeback after initially trailing in sets, ultimately securing a 3-1 win over Cullen at Alexandra Palace. Throughout the game, Cullen was visibly frustrated, glancing at his watch sarcastically and muttering “hurry up” to himself as the 53-year-old Suljovic took his time preparing to throw at the oche.

While Suljovic is known for his deliberate pace compared to other players, Cullen, also known as ‘the Rockstar,’ grew increasingly annoyed with his opponent’s slow play and prolonged celebrations. Tensions escalated during their post-match handshake, with Cullen exchanging heated words with Suljovic, who responded with laughter.

As Cullen exited the stage, he paused, turned back, and gave Suljovic a cold stare while the Austrian basked in the crowd’s cheers. Subsequently, Cullen vented his frustrations on social media, stating, “If that’s darts, I want no part of it! Always liked Mensur away from the board but that was plain for all to see!”

Cullen continued, expressing his belief that Suljovic’s actions constituted cheating, despite traditionalists defending it as part of the game. Suljovic, when asked about Cullen’s outburst and whether he had apologized for his slow play, appeared puzzled, stating he had never personally apologized to Cullen and questioned the legitimacy of the issue.

Suljovic emphasized the individuality of playing styles, highlighting that he waits approximately 40 seconds before his first dart, while gesturing towards other players who have quicker setups. He defended his actions, stating that his behavior on stage was not inappropriate and questioned Cullen’s grievances.

Looking ahead, Suljovic might face defending world champion Luke Littler in the next round. Littler will go up against darts player and NHS area manager David Davies in his upcoming match.

The PDC World Darts Championship commenced on December 11, with fans able to catch every match live exclusively through Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle.
