Country music icon Dolly Parton, known for her inspirational journey from humble beginnings to stardom, is set to bring her life story to Broadway in a new musical titled “Dolly: A True Original Musical.” The production, featuring a mix of new songs and classic hits like “I Will Always Love You” and “9 to 5,” will premiere in New York City on December 7 and run until November 21, 2027.
In a video announcement, the 80-year-old singer-songwriter emphasized the authenticity of the show, stating that it delves into her real experiences, losses, and triumphs rather than just focusing on the glitz and glamour. Parton, a prolific artist with over 3,000 songs to her name and more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, expressed her excitement, calling the Broadway debut a dream come true.
The musical, which premiered in Nashville last year to a sold-out audience, aims to showcase a side of Parton that goes beyond the sparkly image she is often associated with. Director Bartlett Sher highlighted the special bond audiences have with Parton, noting how she has touched and inspired many lives over the years.
Tickets for “Dolly: A True Original Musical” will be available to the public starting on Friday, July 10. The show promises to offer a unique and unfiltered glimpse into Dolly Parton’s remarkable life journey, revealing the woman behind the rhinestones.
