If you’ve been experiencing issues with your Gmail app, such as screen flickering and text disappearing, you’re not alone. Users of various devices, including Samsung models, have reported these problems while using Gmail. Some users have mentioned complete text disappearance, while others have seen blank white boxes instead of their messages.
Concerned Gmail users have taken to social media to express their frustrations. One user named Jeremiah tweeted to @gmail about the ongoing flickering problem on folding phones like the Samsung Fold, calling it “completely unacceptable.”
Similar complaints have been seen on Google’s support forums, with one user mentioning that the screen flickers when opening emails, making them unreadable despite trying various troubleshooting steps.
Google product expert Kimiya Kitani has noted that the issue seems to be related to Android System WebView, a key Android component that allows apps to display web content within the app itself.
Kitani explained that certain devices, including Samsung tablets, are facing intermittent problems with Android System WebView, and Google is aware of this issue. While the exact number of affected users is unknown, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold series and specific Galaxy tablets are among the most impacted.
In the interim, a temporary solution has been suggested. Kitani recommends rotating the device, as this action can often stop the screen flickering.
The suggested workaround is straightforward: open the email in portrait mode, switch to landscape mode until the screen appears correctly, then revert to portrait mode. This workaround may provide relief while awaiting a permanent fix from Google.
