In New York City, a tragic incident unfolded when a seven-month-old baby, Kaori Patterson-Moore, was fatally shot while seated in her stroller during daylight hours. The alleged shooter’s image has been released, and one suspect matching the description is in custody for an unrelated matter, while a manhunt is underway for another suspect linked to the shooting.
The heart-wrenching event occurred in the East Williamsburg neighborhood as Kaori’s mother was pushing her in the buggy. Following gunshots, chaos erupted, prompting the family, including the mother, father, and two-year-old brother, to seek refuge in a nearby store. Regrettably, it was inside the store that the mother discovered Kaori had been hit in what authorities suspect to be a gang-related attack.
Footage from a surveillance camera inside the store captured the mother’s distraught reaction upon realizing her baby had been injured. Despite being rushed to Woodhull Hospital, Kaori was tragically pronounced dead.
During a press conference, New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch revealed that the shooting involved a man firing at least two rounds from a motorcycle ridden in the wrong direction by another individual. Although the bike crashed, leading to the arrest of the suspected shooter, a significant manhunt is ongoing for the driver.
Reflecting on the tragedy, Mayor Zohran Mamdani highlighted the immediate loss of a young life and emphasized the pressing need to address gun violence in the city. The suspects attempting to flee the scene were struck by a car, resulting in their fall from the moped. The rear passenger, who lost both shoes upon impact, was taken to Brooklyn Hospital and subsequently placed under police custody for further investigation.
While the apprehended individual fits the shooter’s description, his arrest was unrelated to the shooting incident. The NYPD is actively working to establish a connection between him and the crime.
