Date:

Durham authorities have reported the discovery of airplane wreckage in the Kawartha Lakes region of Ontario as efforts persist in locating a pilot who went missing after his aircraft was suspected to have entered the area.

Constable Nick Gluckstein disclosed in a statement sent on Monday that the Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) identified aircraft debris near Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, situated approximately a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes township. Verification on whether the debris corresponds to the single-seat plane owned by the absent 73-year-old pilot, known as David, is still pending.

The police noted in a communication on Saturday that David departed from Oshawa Airport in his aircraft at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and was scheduled to return by 9:30 a.m.

In line with the Ontario Provincial Police’s details, the missing plane is a small blue homemade craft marked with “FOFZ” on its tail. David, an experienced pilot standing at five feet seven inches tall with a slender physique, sports black grey hair and a mustache.

David is accustomed to flying in the region south of the Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog. The aircraft’s last known position is believed to be near Balsam Lake.

Gluckstein mentioned that the Trenton JRCC and Kawartha Lakes OPP will participate in the search operation in the vicinity where the debris was located.
