“Putin’s Ukraine Actions Fuel Surge in Military Crimes”

Date:

A surge in violent crimes is gripping Russia as a result of Vladimir Putin’s actions in Ukraine, leading to a shocking rise in criminal activities among military personnel. According to recent statistics from Russia’s garrison military courts, there has been a significant increase in murders committed by servicemen since the start of the full-scale invasion, with civilians being the primary victims.

The data reveals a disturbing trend, with at least 729 murders attributed to military personnel, marking a drastic uptick of 662 compared to the years preceding the conflict. Additionally, cases of sexual violence have seen a sharp increase, including a nine-fold rise in rapes and a five-fold increase in other violent sexual offenses.

Of the 549 cases analyzed in military courts involving individuals linked to Putin’s regime, a concerning number – 312 – involve sex crimes against minors, with 249 cases specifically targeting children under the age of 14. These figures underscore the deteriorating societal conditions within Russia due to the ongoing war, aside from the devastation witnessed in Ukraine.

Retired Colonel-General Leonid Ivashov, a veteran Soviet and Russian commander, has raised alarms about the war’s impact on Russian society, describing a growing culture of brutality and violence permeating through the population. He highlighted the harsh conditions faced by soldiers, likening their experiences to living in a “concentration camp,” with many individuals enduring prolonged service contracts and repeated deployments.

Putin’s decision to conscript tens of thousands of criminals into the armed forces has further exacerbated the situation, allowing offenders to evade punishment by returning to the frontline. This leniency has led to a series of heinous crimes committed by these individuals, including murders, rapes, and other violent acts against civilians.

The stories of individuals like Tsyren-Dorzhi Tsyrenzhapov, Andrey Gorlyakov, and Alexei Nakvakin illustrate the disturbing trend of violence and criminality associated with Putin’s fighters. These incidents underscore the dire consequences of releasing dangerous individuals into military service, resulting in a growing toll of civilian casualties and societal decay.

The impact of Putin’s war in Ukraine is not confined to the battlefield but is also manifesting in a wave of violent crimes and atrocities within Russia, painting a grim picture of the consequences of the ongoing conflict.
