Russian Officials Consider Targeting Westminster Bridge in Retaliation

Date:

Russian officials are urging President Vladimir Putin to target Westminster Bridge in retaliation for British drones allegedly destroying a Russian-held crossing during a Ukrainian operation. The incident, which occurred on the Konka, a tributary of the River Dnipro, was captured in dramatic footage. It has been disclosed that Ukraine utilized British Malloy T-150 heavy-lift drones to cause damage to the bridge.

The revelation has sparked anger among Russian circles. State media figure Vladimir Kornilov criticized the British for openly boasting about their involvement in acts of sabotage on what they consider Russian territory. However, the explosion took place on Ukrainian soil, which had been invaded by Putin.

Kornilov suggested that it was time for Russia to proudly announce that their missiles had taken down Westminster Bridge, with potential involvement from groups like the Houthis or Iranians. He expressed frustration at the British’s apparent joy over their role in the supposed terrorist attack and questioned their reaction if the iconic bridge next to the Houses of Parliament was destroyed.

Westminster Bridge has long attracted interest from Russia, as evidenced by a photo of Russian spy Anna Chapman on the bridge before her arrest in New York. Another pro-Putin outlet, Tsargrad, criticized the British for celebrating their participation in the attack and questioned whether it was time to target the decision-making hub in response.

Initially, the explosion on the Konka bridge was believed to be a standard aerial strike. However, it has now been revealed that Ukraine’s 426th Unmanned Systems Regiment conducted over 30 missions using heavy-lifting drones over 60 days, delivering significant amounts of explosives while evading Russian detection.

Colonel Oleksii Bulakhov, the regiment’s commander, explained that the innovative method involved placing a 50kg shaped charge on the bridge’s vulnerable points and igniting it with a missile. This operation was a major achievement in the ongoing conflict.
