Barclays has declared the closure of its Barclaycard website, advising customers to utilize an app instead. The website shutdown is scheduled for June 10, attributing the decision to the increasing number of customers opting for app-based banking services over traditional web platforms.
Barclays assures that customers will eventually access Barclaycard services through the Barclays website online. Currently, Barclaycard boasts over five million customer accounts in the UK. An email sent to customers mentioned the closure of Barclaycard online servicing on June 10, 2026, emphasizing the transition to the Barclaycard app for account management.
Some customers have expressed dissatisfaction on social media, highlighting their reliance on websites over apps. A spokesperson clarified that the dedicated Barclaycard website will be replaced with account servicing via Barclays online banking, ensuring a seamless transition without disrupting regular online banking activities.
Barclays aims to simplify customer interactions by gradually implementing the transition with continued access to online banking services, including applying for new cards or managing existing accounts through the Barclaycard or Barclays apps, telephone banking, or in-branch services.
In a recent development reported by The Times, Barclays plans to reintroduce high street branches and “bank managers” to enhance customer support. Vim Maru, CEO at Barclays UK, expressed the importance of providing personalized assistance to customers rather than automated chat services. Despite the closure of over 800 branches since 2018, Barclays remains committed to serving customers through a blend of digital convenience and personalized support.
Mr. Maru emphasized the return of the branch manager role to meet customer needs for human interaction and support. The initiative aligns with Barclays’ strategy to differentiate its services by offering digital excellence alongside personalized customer care.
