“Shoppers Beware: Cybersecurity Experts Warn of Scams During Amazon Prime Event”

Date:

Amazon Prime members should be extra cautious this week as the e-commerce giant gears up for a two-day sales event. While the deals are appealing, there is a heightened risk of falling victim to scams. Cybersecurity experts are alerting consumers to the potential for online fraudsters to take advantage of the shopping frenzy.

Check Point researchers have identified over 700 new Amazon-related domains registered online, with approximately 1 in every 18 domains flagged as suspicious or malicious. Alarmingly, about 1 in every 36 domains contain the phrase “Amazon Prime.”

Shoppers are advised to be wary of emails or messages claiming payment issues with Amazon or notifications about suspended Prime accounts, as these are common tactics used by scammers to obtain sensitive information like passwords and financial details.

Check Point emphasized the importance of vigilance during Amazon Prime Day 2025, urging shoppers to verify links and emails before clicking to minimize the risk of falling prey to phishing attempts and fake websites.

To stay safe while shopping online, consider the following tips:

– Verify domains: Trust only official sites such as Amazon.com.
– Avoid clicking on email or PDF links; visit Amazon directly through your browser.
– Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) on your Amazon account.
– Implement layered security measures across various devices and networks.
– Scrutinize URLs, attachments, and content in unexpected messages for signs of phishing.

Enjoy the upcoming sales event, but remember to remain cautious and be on the lookout for suspicious communications and websites.
