A highly intense tornado has struck the village of Pomas in southern France, causing numerous injuries and extensive damage to over 300 homes. Fortunately, no individuals have been reported missing in the aftermath of the disaster. As of Tuesday morning, the Aude prefecture indicated that 1,400 households were still without power.
The tornado was captured swirling above the village of Verzeille, located a few kilometers east of Pomas, late on Monday. Multiple residences in its path suffered shattered windows as the tornado passed through. Images from social media videos, verified by Reuters, depict the destructive force of the tornado.
In the village of Preixan, situated a few kilometers north of Pomas, the tornado was also documented as it moved through the area. The visuals of the tornado’s impact have been authenticated by Reuters through social media footage.
In the aftermath of the tornado, residents and authorities have been assessing the damage and working on cleanup efforts. Images show a man amidst the debris of a damaged house in Pomas. Additionally, the roof collapse of the Saint Julien et Sainte Basilisse church in Pomas has left debris scattered inside the building.
The photos also reveal fallen trees in a cemetery in Pomas and individuals covering a damaged building’s roof with tarp. Pedestrians were seen navigating through the area near toppled trees and damaged homes. The community is coming together to address the destruction caused by the tornado.
