“Tragic Deaths on Mount Tibrogargan & Mount Beerwah”

Date:

A tragic incident unfolded on Mount Tibrogargan in the Sunshine Coast as a woman was discovered deceased shortly after reportedly calling out for help while hiking. Authorities responded to a hiker’s distress call at the base of the mountain, leading to the discovery of the woman’s body. The exact cause of her death remains unknown, with indications suggesting a possible fall during her solo hike. Law enforcement will be preparing a report for the coroner.

Mount Tibrogargan, situated in the Glass House Mountains about 70km north of Brisbane, stands at 364 meters above sea level, ranking as the third tallest peak in the range after Mount Beerwah and Mount Coonowrin. While the area is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts, the Queensland Department of Environment and Tourism advises that those attempting the summit routes must possess advanced climbing skills, fitness levels, and rock-scrambling experience due to the challenging terrain.

The warning comes in light of a recent tragedy where two teenagers lost their lives after a fall from Mount Beerwah in similar conditions. Lorielle Russell, 18, and Jack Thatcher, 18, tragically slipped during a hike on March 15, resulting in fatal consequences. Lorielle Russell succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while Jack Thatcher passed away in the hospital days later.
