US doctor Mehmet Oz claimed that President Donald Trump believes diet soda can eliminate cancer cells in the body. Dr. Oz, who serves as the Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, discussed Trump’s views on diet soda with Donald Trump Jr on his Triggered podcast. According to Dr. Oz, Trump thinks that because diet soda kills grass, it must also kill cancer cells internally.
Despite Trump’s assertions, there is no scientific backing to support the claim that diet soda can combat cancer. This is not the first time Trump’s dietary choices have come under scrutiny by close associates.
US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Junior criticized Trump’s eating habits, describing them as the most “unhinged” among his administration. Kennedy highlighted Trump’s affinity for fast-food, particularly McDonald’s, candy, and Diet Coke. He expressed surprise at Trump’s dietary habits, emphasizing his frequent consumption of Diet Coke and unhealthy food choices.
Kennedy noted that Trump tends to indulge in junk food while traveling, trusting big corporations for his meals to avoid falling ill. However, he mentioned that Trump opts for healthier options when at Mar-a-Lago or the White House.
Republican National Committee chair Joe Gruters revealed Trump’s penchant for customizing McDonald’s meals during his 2024 campaign, creating a super-burger by combining various menu items. Gruters questioned how someone of Trump’s seniority could regularly consume such unhealthy fast food.
The “Make America Healthy Again” movement led by Trump and Kennedy aims to address key health concerns related to excessive consumption of processed foods, which are linked to chronic conditions like diabetes and obesity.
