“TSA Warns: Card Games Can Trigger Airport Security Delays”

Date:

Airport security can often be a frustrating aspect of air travel. Once you reach the security checkpoint, you want the process to be smooth and swift without any delays. Having your bag stuck in the scanner or flagged for manual inspection can be an unwanted hassle.

Many travelers overlook the fact that seemingly harmless items can trigger security concerns due to their shape. For instance, carrying a deck of playing cards, UNO, or other card games, including collectible ones like Pokémon or tarot cards, can lead to security issues.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in the United States advises passengers to place valuable card sets in their carry-on bags to avoid potential delays. TSA spokesperson Ian Cava highlighted that the shape and density of cards can raise suspicion during screening, potentially requiring additional checks.

To expedite the process and prevent hold-ups, travelers are recommended to place card sets in a separate tray next to their carry-on bag during security screening. If the cards still pose visibility challenges on the scanner, physical inspection might be necessary, especially for travelers with extensive card collections.

Apart from cards, various personal items are prohibited in hand luggage due to safety concerns. Items like sharp objects and even seemingly harmless items such as corkscrews could lead to confiscation at security checkpoints.

Ensuring smooth passage through airport security involves being mindful of the items you carry and following security guidelines. Travelers should allocate sufficient time for screening, especially if carrying items that could potentially raise security flags.
