“Defending Champ Brooke Henderson Eyes CPKC Women’s Open Victory”

Date:

Brooke Henderson, the defending champion from Smiths Falls, Ontario, is aiming for her third career victory in the CPKC Women’s Open in Edmonton. She carded a 68 in the second round to reach 5-under par. With two more rounds to go, Henderson is currently trailing leader Soo Bin Joo of South Korea by four strokes, with Joo sitting at 9 under at Edmonton’s Royal Mayfair Golf Club.

Despite being 7 under earlier in the round, Henderson encountered some setbacks with two back-nine bogeys, one of which resulted in her tee shot hitting a spectator after drifting left. Henderson promptly apologized to the woman and offered her a golf ball as a gesture.

Meanwhile, Calgary’s Aphrodite Deng, last year’s low amateur at the tournament in Mississauga, finished her round strongly with consecutive birdies to reach 3 under with a score of 67.

In this $2.75 million US event, the top 65 players and those tied with them will advance to the next round. Canadian teenagers Anna Huang of Vancouver and Michelle Xing of Richmond Hill, Ontario, who began the day three shots behind the leader at 5 under, had afternoon tee times.
