Canada’s Camryn Rogers emerged victorious in the women’s hammer throw event at the recent Diamond League meet held at the grand Silesian Stadium in Chorzow, Poland. Hailing from Richmond, B.C., Rogers achieved her best throw measuring 77.09 meters on her fourth attempt. Notably, Rogers is the current holder of Olympic, world, and Commonwealth Games titles in this discipline.
Securing the second spot was American DeAnna Price with a throw of 75.23 meters, followed by Italy’s Sara Fantini in third place at 71.95 meters. The Canadian dominance in hammer throw continued as Nanaimo, B.C.’s Ethan Katzberg clinched victory in the men’s event with an impressive throw of 82.92 meters, holding Olympic, world, and Commonwealth Games accolades.
In the men’s 100m event, upcoming races will feature top sprinters including world champion Oblique Seville from Jamaica, two-time Olympic silver medalist Kenny Bednarek from the United States, and former world champion Christian Coleman. The women’s 100m race is equally competitive with participants like Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred, American Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs, Sha’Carri Richardson, the 2023 world champion, and 2024 Olympic silver medalist, along with Tina Clayton, the runner-up in the previous year’s world championships.
The global track and field season is set to culminate with the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship scheduled for September 11-13 in Budapest. Katzberg has secured a spot in the Ultimate Championship by virtue of being the reigning Olympic and world champion in the men’s hammer throw. However, Rogers, despite her Olympic, world, and Commonwealth Games titles in the women’s hammer throw, will not partake in the championship as this specific event is not included in the program.
