Despite this acclaim, the Canadian actor revealed that he has not received any offers for new roles since the movie’s success. Page disclosed this information during an interview on the podcast On Film… With Kevin McCarthy.
When questioned about his future plans by host Kevin McCarthy, who assumed he would be inundated with offers post-movie, Page responded, “No, Kevin, I’m not.” Notably, Page garnered positive reviews for his portrayal of the Greek soldier Sinon in The Odyssey, where he played a pivotal role as an early casualty in Odysseus’s strategy and delivered a poignant monologue from beyond the grave.
Addressing the controversy surrounding rumors that he was cast as Achilles, Page humorously referenced the transphobic uproar that ensued, mentioning right-wing figures such as Ben Shapiro, Megyn Kelly, and Elon Musk who fueled the social media frenzy. However, it was later revealed that Page was portraying a different character in the film, debunking the false assumptions.
Having started his acting career at the age of 10, Page is renowned for his acclaimed performances in Juno, Inception, and Hard Candy. In 2020, he publicly came out as transgender and has since been an advocate against anti-2SLGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation in the U.S. and Canada. Page joined 399 other Canadian artists in condemning anti-trans policies in 2024, emphasizing the importance of allowing gender-diverse individuals to express their identities freely.
In a recent podcast episode, Page expressed his eagerness to explore new acting challenges and noted that his transition has bolstered his confidence on screen. He reflected on the evolution of his craft, stating, “I feel like I could maybe I could do some of my best work now.” This newfound authenticity in his performances contrasts with his earlier discomfort, particularly during his collaboration with Nolan on Inception where he portrayed a female character.
Page’s experience post-The Odyssey mirrors that of his co-star Samantha Morton, who portrayed Circe in the film. Morton revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that she has not secured any acting roles in the year following the movie’s release, attributing the industry’s changing dynamics as a factor in the lack of opportunities for seasoned actors like herself.
