A new overnight train service linking major European cities is set to release tickets soon. European Sleeper, a train operator based in the Netherlands and Belgium, currently offers night train routes connecting cities like Berlin, Prague, and Amsterdam. The company is preparing to introduce a new 17-and-a-half-hour journey from Brussels, Belgium, to Milan, Italy.
Initially, the night train to Milan will operate from Belgium, with plans to extend the route to the Netherlands by 2027. Once fully operational, the train will make stops in Cologne (Germany), Zurich (Switzerland), and Como (Italy).
The launch of the train service to Milan has been postponed from June to September 9 due to track maintenance in Germany and the certification process in Switzerland. The European Sleeper service will depart from Brussels on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday evenings, reaching Zurich and Milan the following morning.
The return trip from Milan will operate on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday nights, passing through Zurich and the Gotthard Pass. The Simplon Pass route, originally planned, is no longer feasible due to ongoing track works until 2027.
The company stated that the revised route via the Gotthard Pass offers new opportunities, including access to ski resorts in Göschenen and connections to scenic locations like Lugano and Como. Ticket sales for the new route will commence on March 17, 2026, with various fare options available.
European Sleeper expressed excitement about the new connection, despite the delayed start date. The company already operates services between Brussels and Prague and will soon launch a Paris to Berlin route. Nox, a Berlin startup, also plans to offer affordable single-room accommodations starting in 2027, providing an alternative to short-haul flights.
