A celebrated jockey narrowly escaped a fatal accident when her pelvis was crushed by a horse she was riding. Sonja Logan, in 2023, faced a harrowing experience when a group of individuals attempted to steal her car. The assailants shattered her car window with a brick and violently attacked her with a rock, resulting in a broken nose, a cut lip, and three broken front teeth just three weeks before her wedding.
Despite the attackers fleeing upon the alarm being raised, they remain at large. Logan recounted the excruciating pain she endured as a half-ton racehorse pinned her down, describing it as the most agonizing experience of her life. Riding Jumping Power Two, trained by her husband Tommy, Logan was on the saddle when the six-year-old horse was startled by something unforeseen.
Recalling the incident to Mirror Racing, Logan explained how the horse reared up in the barriers, causing her to fall to the ground with the horse landing on top of her, crushing her pelvis. She was swiftly attended to by paramedics who administered pain relief before transporting her to Darwin Royal Hospital and later to Adelaide Royal Hospital for specialized treatment due to the severity of her injuries.
Following the accident, Logan underwent surgery to repair her crushed pelvis, with two screws inserted in her right hip and a plate secured with several screws at the bottom to stabilize the injuries. Remarkably, she avoided fatal consequences as the horse landed on her pelvis, preventing potential rib injuries that could have been fatal.
Despite enduring excruciating pain, Logan is now recovering at home with the aid of a walking frame and anticipates a healing period of six to eight months, contingent upon her rehabilitation progress. Determined to return to riding, Logan shares her aspirations of resuming her career as a jockey, highlighting the importance of managing pain levels during her recovery.
In a remarkable display of resilience, Logan overcame her mental struggles post-carjacking by embracing competitive bodybuilding, finding solace and support through her newfound passion. Grateful for the unwavering support from her close circle, especially her husband Tommy, Logan remains optimistic and determined to overcome the challenges brought on by her recent setback.
