“Britons Warned Against Travel to Specific Regions in Turkey, Thailand, Mexico”

Date:

Britons heading to three popular vacation destinations have been cautioned against visiting specific regions. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has previously issued warnings about traveling to certain areas in Turkey, Thailand, and Mexico. With summer holidays approaching, it’s crucial to take heed of the FCDO advice before planning your trip.

In Turkey, the FCDO advises against all travel within 10km of the Turkish border with Syria due to ongoing conflict and an increased risk of terrorism. In Thailand, travelers are advised to avoid non-essential trips to parts of the south near the Thailand-Malaysia border, including Pattani Province, Yala Province, Narathiwat Province, and specific districts in Songkhla Province. The FCDO also advises against non-essential travel on the Hat Yai to Padang Besar train line running through these areas.

Near the Thailand-Cambodia border, all non-essential travel within 20km of the land border with Cambodia is discouraged by the FCDO. Recent border conflicts in July 2025 involving rocket and artillery fire have escalated tensions, with concerns about unexploded landmines in the border region.

For those considering a trip to Mexico during the 2026 FIFA World Cup between July 11 and July 19, it is essential to follow the FCDO guidance. Remember to prioritize safety and stay informed about potential risks in these regions.
