Donald Trump has made a significant reversal, appealing to the UK and other nations to dispatch warships to the Middle East for overseeing the Strait of Hormuz.
Just days ago, the US President confidently stated that the conflict with Iran had been decisively resolved, disregarding reports about the UK’s readiness to deploy the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales to the area.
In a post on his Truth Social website, Trump praised the United Kingdom for contemplating sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East, but also made it clear that the US no longer required their assistance in conflicts that had already been won.
However, in light of ongoing Iranian threats to ships navigating the crucial Strait of Hormuz, Trump’s stance seemed to have shifted entirely today. He highlighted the need for multiple countries, particularly those impacted by Iran’s actions in the Strait, to join forces with the United States in ensuring the safety and openness of the waterway.
Emphasizing the continued risk posed by Iran despite its military setbacks, Trump urged nations like China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the UK to contribute warships to the region to eliminate the threat posed by a severely weakened Iran.
Furthermore, he outlined plans for the US to take aggressive action to secure the Strait, including airstrikes on shorelines and the interception of Iranian vessels. Trump expressed determination to ensure the Strait of Hormuz is accessible, secure, and unrestricted in the near future.
