Britons are being advised to double-check the validity of their passports following data indicating that more than 1.4 million UK adults may face expiry issues before the upcoming summer vacation season.
A recent analysis by the team at budget carrier Wizz Air, based on information from the HM Passport Office, disclosed that over 1.4 million travel documents are set to expire by the conclusion of June 2026. Failing to verify passport status could lead to travel disruptions and potential insurance coverage complications due to invalid documentation.
As the summer holidays draw near, Wizz Air is urging travelers to review their passport expiration dates promptly to avoid last-minute hassles or trip cancellations during the peak travel period.
For British travelers heading to Europe, a post-Brexit regulation often catches vacationers off guard. It is essential to scrutinize not just one but two dates on your passport: the issue date, ensuring it falls within the 10-year validity requirement, and the expiry date, which must extend at least three months beyond the planned return from EU nations.
If uncertain about entry regulations for a specific destination, UK passport holders can refer to the Foreign Office’s travel guidance for updated information on necessary travel requirements.
Yvonne Moynihan, Managing Director at Wizz Air UK, emphasized the importance of verifying passport validity early to prevent summer plans from being disrupted. Renewing passports can be done online for £94.50 or through a paper application costing £107, with detailed instructions available on the government’s official website.
Travelers are advised to update passport details on existing bookings if required to avoid any complications arising from passport expiration during upcoming travel.
