“Sunny Beach: The New Budget-Friendly Alternative to Benidorm”

Date:

Benidorm has long been a popular choice for tourists seeking a vibrant atmosphere, ample beachfront space, and easy access to clubs near their accommodations. However, in recent times, many travelers have started exploring alternatives to this Spanish destination. If you’re looking for a change from Benidorm, there’s another exciting option approximately 3.5 hours away from the UK.

Sunny Beach in Bulgaria bears striking similarities to Benidorm. Both destinations emerged in the 1960s during the rise of package holidays, and the high-rise hotels along Sunny Beach’s promenade could easily be mistaken for the bustling Levante Beach area in Benidorm.

Notably, some tourists have expressed concerns about the rising prices in Benidorm, leading them to consider Sunny Beach as a more budget-friendly alternative. Travel vlogger Travel with Col showcased Sunny Beach’s affordability in a video from June last year, highlighting deals like two cocktails for £4.60 and beers for £1.50.

True to its name, Sunny Beach boasts a lengthy stretch of sandy coastline. The Blue Flag beach spans around six miles, offering quieter spots for relaxation or a more family-oriented environment. The gradual slope of the sand into the Black Sea creates shallow, clear, and tranquil waters, perfect for swimming and snorkeling.

At the heart of the action lies Central Beach, lined with numerous beach bars, nightclubs, and expansive hotels. During the day, visitors can be seen lounging on sunbeds with cocktails and enjoying DJ performances, while the nightlife scene buzzes with clubs staying open until the early hours. Some venues, like Cacao Beach, operate round the clock, ensuring non-stop entertainment.

Inland, Sunny Beach caters to tourists with an array of shops selling beach attire, a vibrant market with colorful stalls, and affordable fast-food options. Dining choices range from international cuisines to local Bulgarian eateries serving Balkan dishes. Families often flock to Sunny Beach Amusement Park for fairground rides and roller coasters, or to the Action Aquapark for pools, slides, and a lazy river.

Most British travelers arrive via Burgas Airport, which offers seasonal flights through airlines such as easyJet, Jet2, Ryanair, TUI, and Wizz Air. Situated about half an hour from Sunny Beach, the airport provides convenient public transport connections.

A visit to historic Burgas is recommended for a day trip from Sunny Beach. Highlights include The Sea Garden, renowned for a pier reminiscent of British seaside attractions, Dino Park featuring animatronic dinosaurs, and the expansive Mall Galleria hosting popular European retail chains.

Wrap up your day with a boat excursion to St. Anastasia Island, a quaint 2.5-acre islet dating back to medieval times. Here, visitors can explore a monastery, museum, and a historic lighthouse, immersing themselves in a unique historical experience.
