A 19-year-old individual has been sentenced to 28 months in jail for using the Roblox platform to groom a young girl, causing concern among parents. Carlo Tritta, from Eastleigh, initiated contact with the 14-year-old victim in September 2024 on Roblox, which escalated into an unhealthy attachment. Tritta bombarded the teenager with gifts, phone calls, and sexually explicit messages on various platforms, leading the girl to believe they were in a relationship.
The victim’s mother discovered inappropriate content and reported Tritta to the authorities, resulting in his arrest. Despite being bailed under strict conditions not to contact the girl, Tritta persistently harassed her and her family, even traveling to their home in Manchester multiple times. He was charged with various offenses related to indecent images, sexual communications with a child, and witness intimidation.
In a victim impact statement, the girl expressed feeling trapped and scared, while her mother highlighted the distressing impact on their family. The case sheds light on the dangers of online platforms like Roblox, where criminals exploit vulnerable individuals. Concerns have also been raised about other incidents linked to tragic outcomes involving the platform.
The incidents underscore the urgent need for enhanced safety measures on digital platforms to protect users, especially children. The company behind Roblox emphasized its commitment to preventing criminal activities on the platform, implementing age verification checks and stringent chat protections. However, the case serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of prioritizing online safety and protecting vulnerable users from harm.
