A mother from the UK is urgently trying to return home from Australia after her father tragically died in a fatal accident on the A59 highway. Sarah Travis, who moved to Queensland with her three children to start anew following the loss of her mother to cancer and her brother to suicide, faced another heartbreaking blow when her father, 72-year-old Rob Travis, was killed in a crash on the A59.
Rob, an experienced motorcyclist, lost his life on March 18 in a collision with an Audi near Dick Turpins Snack Bar. The driver of the Audi, a 46-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs.
Sarah is now struggling to gather funds for a flight back home to bid her final farewell to her father. However, the current global flight disruptions due to conflicts in the Middle East have made this task increasingly difficult. “My dad was tragically killed on his motorbike on March 18,” Sarah expressed. “He was a skilled rider who unfortunately suffered fatal head injuries in the crash. I received the devastating news from my nephew, and not being able to say goodbye has left me in complete shock.”
Having already endured the loss of her mother and brother, Sarah is now faced with financial challenges and flight disruptions hindering her return home. She has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for her journey, as flight prices have skyrocketed in recent weeks. Despite raising a significant amount, the high costs of flights are a major obstacle in her efforts to return promptly.
With nearly $4,500 AUD raised so far, Sarah is seeking additional support to facilitate her crucial journey back home. Her friend Jaymie Grant has set up the fundraiser to help Sarah in this difficult time. Sarah emphasized, “This financial pressure is adding to the existing trauma, making an already difficult situation a thousand times worse. I feel utterly helpless, and the timing couldn’t be more challenging.”
