Renowned snooker player Ronnie O’Sullivan has delivered a firm message to snooker governing bodies, insisting that they must meet his financial demands if they want him to participate in future events. The seven-time world champion emphasized that he values his worth and will not hesitate to prioritize lucrative opportunities.
O’Sullivan’s stance comes in the wake of the abrupt cancellation of the high-profile Saudi Arabia Masters, a tournament with a substantial prize fund of £2.3 million, which was terminated prematurely despite having a 10-year agreement. The snooker icon, who also operates a Snooker Academy in Riyadh, emphasized that regardless of the location, whether it be Saudi Arabia, Qatar, China, or elsewhere, he expects a suitable compensation package to be in place for his involvement.
Expressing his non-negotiable position, O’Sullivan declared, “Every tournament I attend, organizers are aware that they must meet my financial requirements. This is non-negotiable for me. If the financial aspect is not satisfactory, then my participation will cease.”
When asked about the potential impact on his Snooker Academy, O’Sullivan remained unfazed, asserting that he has alternative options available. While expressing hope for future collaborations with Saudi Arabia, he highlighted the importance of waiting for developments before making any definitive decisions.
