Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse secured a spot in his fifth Diamond League Final with a solid performance in the 200-meter race at the Weltklasse Zürich event. De Grasse finished in 20.03 seconds, coming in behind Kenny Bednarek of the United States and Sinesipho Dambile of South Africa. This race marked De Grasse’s first 200-meter event since his victory in Zagreb, Croatia, with a time of 19.95. Notably, De Grasse holds the Canadian record of 19.62 set during the 2021 Olympic final in Tokyo.
At the upcoming Diamond League Final in Belgium, De Grasse will aim to become the country’s first champion since Sarah Mitton’s win in Brussels. The men’s 200-meter field will feature top contenders like Dambile, Letsile Tebogo of Botswana, and Bednarek.
In a separate event, Alison dos Santos and Masai Russell set new world records in the hurdles. Dos Santos achieved a time of 45.80 seconds in the men’s 400m hurdles, while Russell clocked 12.09 seconds in the women’s 100m hurdles. The pole vault competition witnessed a fierce battle between Mondo Duplantis and Emmanouil Karalis, with Karalis emerging as a strong challenger to Duplantis’ dominance in the event.
