Budget airline easyJet is set to introduce a new seasonal summer flight route from London Gatwick to Newquay, providing travelers with quick access to the picturesque beaches of Cornwall. Newquay, known for its stunning golden sand beaches and popularity among surfers, offers a range of beaches such as Fistral Beach for surfing lessons and Tolcarne Beach for bodyboarding.
The route, commencing on June 23, will operate twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays until August 29, with fares starting from £30.99 for a one-way ticket. Despite the convenience and affordability of the flight, concerns have been raised regarding its environmental impact compared to alternative modes of transport. According to Trainline’s calculations, a train journey emits significantly less carbon compared to a car or a flight for the same distance.
Kevin Doyle, easyJet UK Country Manager, expressed excitement about the new route, emphasizing enhanced connectivity for passengers from London and the South East to explore Cornwall. Nigel Scott, Commercial Director at Cornwall Airport Newquay, welcomed the new service as a convenient and cost-effective option for visitors during the busy summer season.
In related news, Skybus services supported by Cornwall Council have been discontinued due to rising fuel costs and low bookings. Passengers with existing Skybus bookings will receive full refunds. Newquay Airport, which saw over 407,609 passengers in 2024, serves various airlines including Aer Lingus, Ryanair, and now easyJet with the new London Gatwick route. Ryanair offers year-round flights to London-Stansted, while easyJet already operates a seasonal Manchester route from the airport. International destinations from Newquay include Malaga, Alicante, and Faro.
