A former funeral director, Robert Bush, has confessed to hoarding 30 bodies in his struggling business, sparking outrage for his callous actions towards grieving families. In a court appearance in Hull, the 48-year-old father pleaded guilty to 30 charges of obstructing the lawful burial of bodies at Legacy Independent Funeral Directors, along with a theft charge involving 12 charities.
Bush reversed his plea in front of his victims, who had denounced him as a “monster” and are now pushing for stricter regulations on funeral directors. The individuals affected are seeking severe punishment for Bush, with one victim expressing a desire for a life sentence upon his sentencing.
The bodies discovered by the police included a list of names, each belonging to a deceased individual. When law enforcement officers raided Bush’s premises, they were confronted with a distressing scene, likened to a horror movie. Specialized units had to be called in to handle the decomposed remains, including the heart-wrenching discovery of an infant’s body and three sets of unborn children’s ashes.
A total of 35 bodies were found at Bush’s location on Hessle Road, but only 30 were linked to formal charges by the prosecution. The authorities also uncovered 67 sets of ashes belonging to various individuals. Images of the victims compiled by the police have been released to the public.
In the aftermath of Bush’s arrest, families impacted by his actions have shared their harrowing experiences, revealing instances of misidentified ashes and mishandled remains. The deceitful practices of the funeral director have left families devastated and seeking justice for their loved ones. The victims are calling for stringent measures to be taken against Bush, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency in the funeral industry.
