Malfunction at Belgium Theme Park Injures Seven

Date:

A theme park incident in north-west Belgium resulted in injuries to five children and two adults, as reported by local police. The malfunction occurred at Boudewijn Seapark in Bruges, prompting emergency services to respond swiftly on Tuesday morning. The individuals sustained minor injuries, such as fractures and back pain, and were promptly taken to hospitals in Bruges for treatment.

Authorities reassured the public that all victims are in the company of family members and are safe. The malfunction involved the Spring Ride, a ride that ascends seven meters before dropping rapidly, malfunctioning while elevated at around four meters. The cause of the malfunction remains unknown, with the park’s manager confirming no recent technical issues with the attraction.

The public prosecutor’s office is on-site, joined by Belgium’s Federal Public Service, to investigate the incident further. The park boasts a variety of attractions, including outdoor rides like the Orca Ride roller coaster and the Sancta Maria pirate ship, along with indoor attractions and expansive playgrounds.

This incident follows a tragic event in Uttar Pradesh, India, where a Ferris wheel collapsed at a fair, leaving at least 10 individuals critically injured. Footage from the fair showed the Ferris wheel slowly tipping sideways before collapsing due to support post failure, injuring around 30 out of the 80 people on the ride at the time.
