Tourists Slam Trump’s Vatican Criticism

Date:

Tourists at the Vatican have criticized US President Donald Trump for his recent remarks about Pope Leo. Trump labeled the Pope as “weak” and influenced by the “radical left” in a social media post, following Leo’s criticism of Trump’s actions towards Iran. Despite calls for an apology, Trump stood by his comments.

While the Pope is currently on a trip to Africa, visitors to the Vatican have not shied away from sharing their views on the situation. Joerg Soler, a tourist from Switzerland, emphasized the importance of the Pope advocating for peace globally, expressing disappointment in Trump’s behavior. French tourist Mariella Acciaioli condemned Trump’s actions as excessive and called for unity in addressing such behavior.

American tourist Paul Sarauskas expressed disbelief at Trump’s interference in religious matters, highlighting the Pope’s mission of promoting peace and helping others, contrasting it with the current administration’s divisive rhetoric. In response, Pope Leo defended the Vatican’s commitment to peace and reconciliation, emphasizing the Gospel’s teachings over political agendas.

Italian journalist Massimo Franco criticized Trump for expecting the Pope to align with American interests, stressing the Pope’s duty to serve a broader community. Rev. Antonio Spadaro, a prominent Italian Jesuit theologian, underscored Trump’s attacks on moral authority, noting the church’s role in judging power based on ethical standards beyond political influence.
