Four individuals tragically lost their lives while attempting to cross the English Channel in a small boat. The head of the Pas-de-Calais region, Francois-Xavier Lauch, confirmed that the migrants’ bodies were discovered far out at sea. French authorities rescued 42 individuals, with one person treated for hypothermia and 37 taken to the hospital.
The incident occurred as the migrants were boarding a “taxi-boat” near Equihen-Plage. Mr. Lauch praised the efforts of officers and firefighters who work tirelessly to prevent such crossings. The victims, two men and two women, were swept away by dangerous currents while already far into the sea.
Authorities are closely monitoring several dinghies at sea, with the French taking the lead in response. The tragic deaths underscore the risks posed by criminal organizations exploiting vulnerable individuals.
