In the lead-up to the festive season, London visitors may enjoy a special sight thanks to Apple’s iPad. The renowned tablet has been utilized to craft 24 holiday-themed designs that are now being projected onto the iconic towers at Battersea Power Station, a significant location for Apple in the UK.
These vibrant artworks were selected from numerous entries submitted by the public in Apple’s “Your Tree on Battersea” competition. As night falls, the images will illuminate two of the towering chimneys standing 101 meters above the River Thames.
Expressing her excitement, Varsha Simha from Canterbury, one of the winners, shared, “I am thrilled to have my design chosen for this competition. My inspiration came from the cozy elements like sweaters and stockings at the Christmas market during the chilliest months.”
Another winner, 7-year-old Miah D.B added joyfully, “I am so happy to be selected. I created this tree on iPad because I adore drawing with it, drawing inspiration from emotions.”
The winners’ creations are accompanied by drawings from well-known personalities such as Kylie Minogue, Sir Stephen Fry, Maro Itoje, Oliver Jeffers, David Shrigley OBE, and Chawawa.
This competition continues Apple’s tradition of celebrating festive creativity and marks the company’s first public engagement in this manner. In the past, artist David Hockney created Bigger Christmas Trees on iPad Pro in 2023, and last year, Aardman, the creator of Wallace & Gromit, used iPhone 16 Pro Max to produce a short animation.
Chawawa expressed, “Hosting Apple’s inaugural iPad Christmas tree competition is a significant moment for me. From my childhood days spent at the store, filling up an iPad with photos, to now leading Your Tree on Battersea, it holds special meaning. I am delighted that we are uniting the nation to construct Christmas trees on iPad and showcasing them across the magnificent city of the world.”
These enchanting images will illuminate Battersea from now until Christmas Eve.
