“Yaverland Beach Named a Top Global Coastal Destination”

Date:

Yaverland Beach, located in Sandown on the Isle of Wight, has been recognized as one of the world’s top coastal destinations, securing a spot on Tripadvisor’s Best of the Best list. Ranking at No. 15 on its debut, the beach surpasses popular coastal spots in Turkey, Indonesia, and Greece. Known for its picturesque beauty, Yaverland Beach boasts a vast, dog-friendly sandy stretch with clear shallow waters and stunning multi-colored cliffs.

Offering excellent amenities and being in close proximity to the award-winning Beach Cafe, Yaverland Beach is an ideal year-round destination for visitors. The beach’s appeal is further enhanced by the fact that the Isle of Wight has been identified as the sunniest location in Britain by the Met Office, with residents enjoying an average of five hours of sunshine daily.

In stark contrast, Lowther Hill in Scotland, the UK’s gloomiest spot, receives just under 2 hours and 45 minutes of daily sunlight. Since last May, Shanklin, located on the eastern shore of the Isle of Wight, has been officially recognized as the brightest spot in the sunniest region of the nation, experiencing a surge in tourist numbers. Sandown, situated just 2.5 miles away from Shanklin, also benefits from the abundant sunshine.

Sandown Bay, spanning eight miles of coastline connecting Sandown and Shanklin, was named Britain’s favorite beach by readers of Countryfile Magazine in 2019. Taking advantage of its beautiful surroundings, a local community group is currently constructing a new tidal sea pool at Yaverland, touted as “Olympic-sized and accessible,” marking the first development of its kind in the UK in a century.

The area is also home to Shanklin Chine, a hidden gem that cuts through the clifftops overlooking the beach and features a picturesque coastal gorge with waterfalls, woodlands, and lush greenery. Shanklin’s Chine, formed over 10,000 years, offers paid entry for tourists to explore its pathways and walkways.

Over the years, this coastal paradise has welcomed esteemed guests such as Charles Dickens, John Keats, Longfellow, Lewis Carroll, and Charles Darwin, who found inspiration for his work Origin of the Species during his time there.
