2026 World Cup Final Tickets Hit Record $10,990

Date:

Fans eager to attend the 2026 World Cup final are encountering record-high prices, with tickets reaching up to $10,990 (£8,333) in the initial open sale. This pricing marks a significant increase from previous expectations, signaling a strategic shift by FIFA for the upcoming tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Initially estimated to be $1,550 (£1,174) in the bid book, the cost of the most expensive final tickets had already surged to $8,680 (£6,581) by the December release. The latest pricing update now sees category one tickets soaring to $10,990 (£8,333), while category two and three tickets have also experienced notable price hikes.

Comparatively, the cost of the most expensive ticket for the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar was $1,604 (£1,214), underscoring the substantial rise in ticket prices for the upcoming event. This escalation has sparked criticism from fans, with many expressing dismay over the exorbitant costs that seem to exclude ordinary supporters from attending the prestigious tournament.

The Football Supporters Association has voiced its concern over the unprecedented ticket prices, labeling them as “absolutely staggering.” The lack of affordability for regular fans has raised questions about the inclusivity of major sporting events and the impact of such steep pricing on fan engagement.

As the ticket sales process unfolds, concerns about public transport accessibility for fans have also emerged, with fears of escalating costs for travel to match venues. Despite efforts to accommodate supporters through various ticket categories, the perception of exclusivity and unaffordability continues to dominate discussions surrounding the upcoming World Cup.
